I love hills

A quick update:
I am finally in the 2nd trimester- 14 weeks. Due to time constraints I will try to post weekly updates but they will be short. We are in the process of trying to build a house and eventually sell the current house. This along with having to travel 3 hrs every other week to get an ultrasound (they consider the type of twins I have high risk), coaching business and taking care of my my happy go lucky almost 3 year old son- I am busy.
I am excited that this week I was able to run 65 miles including a 2 hrs 15 min trail run with some 30 sec steep hill intervals. Most of my runs were on very hilly trails. I am feeling strong and the twins are not hindering my breathing like my last pregnancy. I definitely have a belly bump.
I am also able to finally eat somewhat healthy again. For a few weeks I was surviving on watermelon, pistachios and 1 pint of Ben and Jerry's icecream (yes, 1 pint per day!!). Nothing else appealed to me. In fact, just the smell of certain foods caused me to gag. The last few days have been heaven. I can now eat my normal spinach salad with beans and fish. I just need lots of salad dressing. These types of foods I used to have to force down my throat while gagging at the same time. Hence I only ate a teenie bit of vegetables every day or sometimes none at all. I did end up losing a few lbs but the icecream brought me back up to my racing weight and I think I gained 1lbs since I became pregnant. This is all new to me since last pregnancy I was already 6-7 lbs over my prepregnancy weight. I am just listening to my body now and eating whenever I feel hungry which the last few days has been every 2 hrs.
One other thing- I should have clued in I was having twins with the intense crushing fatigue I was feeling. There were a many days during weeks 7-12 weeks that I was so tired during the day that I fell asleep on the couch reading a book to Eon. It was a chore just to walk up stairs or keep my eyes open. This feeling is mostly gone. I still need to take short catnaps (5 -10 min) every day but after that I feel great again.
My next ultrasound is in 8 days. I will post again soon after that.
Running Happy

Glad to hear the 1st trimester hardships are behind you. My sickness usually last until week 16, so I am glad that you are back to foods that you are more accustomed to eating. How in the heck could you be high risk, you are the health care systems poster child! Are you using a midwife or an MD? Don't feel you need to answer if you don't want. I am just curious. Take care, we love reading your updates. Keep feeling well! -Kristina

I've been reading your blog for ages now, and I'm interested to hear that you're having identical twins. I, too, am a runner and I have 2 month old identical twins. I hope your pregnancy continues to go smoothly and that you're able to run comfortably as long as possible. Best of luck with everything!

I was so excited to find this. i am also 41 with a 3 year old son and due in November. Its refreshing to read about someone who can still lead their "normal" active lifestyle in terms of running. I read all the pregnancy websites and they try to scare you to death about running. I ran with my son for 30-weeks until it wasnt fun anymore. I plan to run through this pregnancy also as long as possible. I had been doing 40-miles per week until last week, I did 32 with 8 miles of walking. We'll see how this week goes. Looking forward to reading more of your blog. Congrats and good luck!
